Paratus & Partners, established in 2020, specialises in energy price risk management.

Who we are

We strive to solve our clients' price risk challenges with innovative and customisable insurance policies that are designed to protect revenues, stabilise balance sheets, augment asset values and IRRs. We support our client's sustainable fuels transition and decarbonisation goals.

Our team provides world-class expertise and bespoke risk management guidance. Our insurance policies are designed to help mitigate the impact of energy price volatility and support financial planning objectives, including managing balance sheet risk.

 

Our brokers offer energy price insurance for transition fuels, freight rate and renewable power. The insurance products we offer are regulated by the Guernsey Financial Services Commission (GFSC).

 

Paratus & Partners is a distributor of Paratus insurance products and is wholly owned by Paratus. Paratus is a portfolio company of ARA Partners, a $6 billion global private equity and infrastructure investment firm, focused on industrial decarbonisation.

Each team member has over a decade of expertise. This includes shipping operations, claims, energy markets, and risk advisory. The Paratus & Partners team includes some of the most established specialists in the maritime, aviation and renewable energy industries, providing a best-in-class governance framework for a FCA regulated and licensed broking entity.

  • Duncan Ross

    Duncan Ross

    Director

    Duncan Ross is a Managing Director of Paratus & Partners Ltd, where he leads regulation, compliance, and business operations. He has been involved in the Paratus innovative fuel and freight risk management solutions since its inception. Duncan is also accountable for Paratus & Partners’ FCA compliance for insurance distribution and credit broker activities, ensuring that all operations meet regulatory standards and enable the company's growth.

    Duncan has extensive expertise gained over the past 15 years in shipping, both at sea and ashore, and previously he held key roles in shipbroking and shipping operations most notably at Oil Brokerage and EA Gibson Shipbrokers. This experience provides Duncan with a unique perspective combining his insurance product expertise and shipping operations knowledge to present the benefits of energy price insurance.

    Duncan holds a BSc (Hons) in Merchant Ship Operations from Southampton Solent University, demonstrating his long-standing commitment to the maritime industry.

  • Kim Rosello

    Kim Rosello

    Maritime Insurance Broker

    Kim joined Paratus & Partners in April 2024 as a marine fuel insurance broker and business development professional. She is responsible for maritime brokerage. Kim develops risk management solutions focused on providing tailored fuel price risk management strategies for owners, managers and charterers in the global maritime sector.

    Kim has 18+ years' experience leading business development in risk management advisory, working closely with financial institutions and major corporations. In 2006 she played a key role in the launch of the Eurasia Group London office and led financial markets business development.

    As a Managing director at Teneo Kim led UK/Europe business development on the Political Risk Advisory team where she worked closely with financial institutions, large corporations, and energy companies. Prior to joining Paratus & Partners she developed and successfully launched a new markets-driven research product at Flint Global a business management consulting firm specialised in advising businesses and investors on UK/EU politics and policy, competition, regulation, and geopolitical issues.

    Kim started her career in banking, working in Equity Capital Markets at Bear Stearns and both ECM and Sales Trading at BBVA.

    Kim holds a Bachelor of Business Administration, International Business, from Hofstra University, and currently sits on the Zarb School of Business, Dean's advisory board.

  • Garwyn Lam

    Garwyn Lam

    Aviation Insurance Broker

    Garwyn is a jet fuel insurance broker at Paratus & Partners responsible for the aviation brokerage. He partners with airlines to help develop their fuel price protection strategies. His relationships extend across the global airline industry, from flag carriers to budget and cargo airlines. Garwyn works with clients to tailor bespoke insurance cover requirements to suit their fuel price risk management needs.

    Garwyn has 30+ years of experience in commodity derivatives, specialising in energy, focusing on the oil complex. His oil markets expertise is developed from trading oil and products via ‘open outcry’ on the trading floor (formerly IPE, now ICE) and on the CME via screen. At Calyon Financial he successfully launched the first dedicated energy futures execution desk in Asia to capture the growth of the electronic energy market. He was an oil, gas and softs broker and clearing account executive at Societe General and at INTL FCStone. Prior to joining Paratus & Partners he was an oil, gas and softs broker at Evolution Markets.

    Garwyn holds a BA Economics degree from University of Kent.

    Distribution & Legal Support

    Chantal provides sales, distribution and legal support at Paratus & Partners.

    She has over 13 years of experience in legal contracts, negotiations and litigation including 6 years in commercial law. As a leading member of the executive committee in her previous role, Chantal brings a dynamic skillset of strategic thinking, legal & compliance and client relationship management to the team. Prior to joining Paratus, Chantal actively practiced as an Advocate in the High Court of South Africa.

    Chantal holds an LLB degree and Master of Laws (LLM) from the University of South Africa.

    Nigel Richardson

    Chairman

    Nigel is a director at Paratus & Partners and has over 35 years’ experience as a leading international shipbroker.

    With over 13 years as Managing Director, Nigel significantly expanded E.A. Gibson's global presence, establishing offices worldwide and successfully transitioning the company into Employee Ownership—a pioneering achievement in shipbroking. His expertise also led to the growth of the company's Products section, which he founded and directed for over 16 years.

    Nigel’s professional affiliations include current membership in the Shipwrights and past membership in the Baltic Exchange. His commitment to professional excellence is also evidenced by obtaining FCA Insurance qualifications, further enriching his distinguished career in shipbroking.

  • Andy Harrison

    Andy is Head of the Energy Portfolios at Paratus Group of Companies (Paratus).

    With over 25 years of energy market experience, Andy is an accomplished professional in both the physical and derivative energy trading sphere, having spent considerable time at investment banks Goldman Sachs and JPMorgan, along with tenures at the independent oil refiner Klesch Group, Phibro, and also Noble Group where he was the Global Head of Middle Distillate trading.

    Andy began his career with Shell Tankers as a Merchant Navy Deck Officer where he gained his Masters certification.

    Gus is the Group CEO and Founder of the Paratus Group of Companies (Paratus), which was established in 2020 and commenced full commercial operations in January 2024, following a growth equity investment from Ara Partners (“Ara”), a global private equity and infrastructure investment firm focused on industrial decarbonisation.

    With over 25 years of experience in energy markets, Gus brings deep expertise in proprietary energy trading across physical markets, derivatives, and hedge funds. He previously served as a Partner at the Vitol Group of Companies, where he co-founded its global derivatives business in London, Geneva, and Singapore. Gus began his career at Shell Trading and Shipping and later traded at Hess Energy Trading.

    Gus holds a First-Class degree in Civil and Structural Engineering from the University of London and a graduate degree in Economics from the University of Cambridge.
